About
I’m a 20-something nobody who has a degree in English and too much to say.
Writing has been a passion of mine since I can remember. So I wanted to open a blog for those who might relate to me. Sometimes my opinions are unpopular, sometimes they’re popular, sometimes they make no sense. I like beauty, fashion, comics, games, interior design, gardening, exploring, animals, color coded calendars, making lists, avoiding my chores, history, etc. Pretty much everything and its opposite counterpart.
I believe that people don’t have to fit just one genre, just one aesthetic, just one “type.”
We don’t have to stick to one genre of music, one way to dress, one expectation of what our hobbies should be, what kind of movies we like, the kinds of people we love, and yet social media and all its evil minions have conditioned us to think we absolutely must reserve ourselves for one category for everything.
But I believe the opposite, I believe in a life that’s gone technicolor.
I believe in having your cake, and eating it too.
Enjoy exploring.
Why ‘Alecto’?
Alecto is one of the Furies of Greek Mythology. A goddess of vengeance who lives in the Underworld, a domain of Hades.
With her two sisters, she is tasked with punishing moral crimes and crimes that go against the natural order, think like a prison warden who watches over the prisoners.
Alecto is known to be the sister of “unceasing anger,” which is never-ending. Meaning she never forgives, never forgets, and never gives in.
In a way, my name doesn’t make much sense. I have this blog to spark joy, self-care, and motivation for self evolution. Not to punish others or be judge, jury, and executioner of morality.
However, I came up with this name with the idea that “Alecto” would be a speaker of truth. Initially, I thought I’d speak on topics some may consider “important” and do what I could to contribute to proper journalism for the masses. A bit of anger was how this came about.
That, however, was long ago, and now I just want to pursue happiness for myself and those I care for.
There is already so much suffering and misery accessible on the internet, what good could I do just adding to it instead of providing a digital escape?
I remember long ago in one of my college lectures, my professor asked who in the room was an optimist. Nobody moved, except for me, who raised my hand. After I made the leap, I remember a 20 v 1 of my classmates who questioned how I could be an optimist in a world like ours. They were all kind of course, Moreso they were stunned at my ease to raise my hand. I was equally shocked that I was the only one.
So, all that to say that I like to think using Alecto is instead a vengeance against pessimism, of isolation, and of exclusivity. Because I remain an optimist.
I want to fight the cruelty of this world with kindness, with hope, and with community.
Therefore, I’ll be known here by that name. Thanks all.
